Mapn is a map of places you've been. Here's what it collects, who can see it, and how to delete it. Mapn is operated by Mapn LLC (support@getmapn.com), the data controller for the information below.

What we collect

Email Sign-in only. Stored apart from your profile and never shown to other users. With Apple's Hide My Email we only ever receive their forwarding address.
Profile Username, display name, and any photo, bio or hometown you add. Visible to signed-in users — that's how people find you.
Your pins Place name, address, coordinates, category, optional date, your note, and any photos you attach.
Activity Comments, likes, and who you follow.
Location Precise, and only while the app is open — to centre the map and suggest nearby places. No background location, no movement tracking.
Photo access To attach photos to a pin, and for Memory Lane — see below.
Push token To send you alerts. Stored with your email, not public.
Crash reports Device model, OS version, stack trace, account id. No pins, photos or messages.

Passwords are handled by Google's Firebase Authentication. We never see them.

How we use it

To run the app — sign you in, draw your map, deliver your notifications. We also use who you follow, and where you are while the app is open, to suggest people and places: accounts followed by people you already follow, and spots your circle has pinned nearby. That's the extent of it. Your feed stays in the order things were posted, and nothing is profiled or targeted.

To label what kind of place a pin is — "Scenic Lookout" or "Greek Restaurant" rather than just "Landmark" or "Restaurant" — we compare its name and location with Foursquare's open dataset of places. We keep our own copy of that dataset alongside the rest of Mapn's data, so your pins are never sent to Foursquare.

Memory Lane stays on your phone

It reads where and when your photos were taken to work out places you've been, and does that entirely on your device — your photo library is never uploaded. The only photos that leave your phone are the ones you choose to attach to a pin.

What we don't do

No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no access to your contacts. Mapn contains no analytics or advertising SDK, and nothing follows you across other apps or sites. We don't sell or share your personal information.

Who can see your pins

If your account is public — the default — any signed-in Mapn user can see your pins. Set it to private and only followers you've approved can. Everyone else still sees your profile — your username, name, photo, bio, and how many pins, countries and followers you have — so they can decide whether to ask to follow you. Your pins, photos and comments stay hidden. You can block an account, which hides each of you from the other, and report a pin, comment or account from the menu on it. Reports, and the fact that an account was blocked, come to us and aren't visible to anyone else.

Who we share it with

Google (Firebase) for accounts, database, photo storage, push and crash reporting, and Apple for Sign in with Apple and push delivery. Both process data on our behalf. Nobody else, unless legally required or to act on a report of illegal content. Data is held on Google Cloud infrastructure in the United States.

Deleting your account

In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. That removes your profile, your pins with their photos and comments, follows, notifications, username, stored email and push token, and it disconnects Mapn from your Apple ID if you signed up that way.

Some things can survive. Comments you left on other people's pins may remain, shown as from a deleted account. Other people's accounts may keep likes you left on their pins, notifications your activity sent them, tags of you on their pins, and entries in their block lists — these hold only an account ID that no longer belongs to anyone, never your name. If someone reported your content, that report is kept as a record of the decision. And crash reports already sent are kept by Google under their retention schedule.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to our use of your personal information. Your profile is editable in the app and deletion is immediate; for anything else email us. We won't treat you differently for asking.

Children

Mapn isn't intended for children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their information. Email us if you believe a child under 13 has an account.

Changes

We'll update this page and its date if this changes, and tell you in the app first if the change is significant. Questions: support@getmapn.com.
